  • 1 and 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk

For the Chocolate Ganache:

  • 1 cup (175g) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Cake Pan:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23cm) round cake pan. Set aside.

Combine the Dry Ingredients:

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Mix the Wet Ingredients:

In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

Bake the Cake:

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it out evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Make the Chocolate Ganache:

In a small saucepan, combine the semisweet chocolate chips, heavy cream, and unsalted butter.

Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate chips are melted and the mixture is smooth.

Cool and Serve:

Once the cake is baked and cooled, pour the warm chocolate ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

Let the cake cool completely before slicing and serving.

  • For an extra indulgent touch, you can serve the cake with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
