  • Author: Martha

Description

There’s something magical about the way a simple, one-pan meal can transform an ordinary evening into something special. This Garlic Chicken Gnocchi Skillet is a warm, hearty dish that brings together juicy, golden-browned chicken, pillowy potato gnocchi, and a creamy garlic-infused sauce. Each bite feels like a little hug for your taste buds.

Gnocchi, with its Italian roots, is a dish steeped in tradition. These soft, doughy dumplings are made from potatoes and have been a beloved part of Italian cuisine for centuries. Originating in Northern Italy, where the colder climate made potato-based dishes a staple, gnocchi has become a global favorite. While homemade gnocchi is a labor of love, the convenience of store-bought gnocchi makes this dish a reality even on the busiest nights.

This recipe, with its creamy garlic sauce and tender chicken, is perfect for anyone who craves comfort food without spending hours in the kitchen. It’s also endlessly versatile—you can add vegetables, adjust the seasonings, or even make it gluten-free with a simple swap. Plus, the whole thing comes together in just 30 minutes!

Imagine the scene: a cold evening, your family gathered around the table, and the aroma of garlic and herbs wafting through the house. This skillet meal is the ultimate comfort food, designed to make your life easier while delivering maximum flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 lb (450g) potato gnocchi
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
  • 1 cup (240ml) chicken broth
  • ½ cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Sauté the Chicken
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces, seasoning them generously with salt, black pepper, and dried Italian herbs. Cook the chicken for about 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pieces are golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside on a plate.

Step 2: Sauté the Garlic
In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds, just until it becomes fragrant. Be careful not to let it burn—garlic can turn bitter quickly if overcooked.

Step 3: Deglaze and Cook the Gnocchi
Pour the chicken broth into the skillet, using a wooden spoon to scrape up any browned bits stuck to the bottom of the pan. These caramelized bits are packed with flavor and will enhance your sauce. Add the gnocchi to the skillet, stirring gently to coat it in the broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then cover and cook for about 3-4 minutes.

Step 4: Create the Creamy Sauce
Reduce the heat to medium-low and pour in the heavy cream. Stir to combine, then let the mixture simmer gently for another 2-3 minutes. The sauce will thicken slightly as it cooks.

Step 5: Combine Everything
Return the cooked chicken to the skillet, along with any juices that have accumulated on the plate. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until it melts into the sauce, creating a creamy, velvety consistency. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.

Step 6: Garnish and Serve
Sprinkle fresh basil leaves over the dish for a burst of color and added freshness. Serve the skillet meal hot, perhaps alongside crusty garlic bread or a simple green salad to round out the meal.

Notes

Storage Tips:
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, warm gently on the stove or in the microwave, adding a splash of broth or cream if needed to revive the sauce.

Make It Your Own:
Experiment with different cheeses like Gruyère or Asiago for a unique flavor twist.

Dietary Adjustments:
For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free gnocchi, which is widely available in most grocery stores.
