Ingredients:

For the Secret Sauce:

1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

For the Patty Melts:

1 1/2 pounds ground beef
Salt and pepper, to taste
8 slices rye bread
8 slices Swiss cheese
1 large onion, thinly sliced
4 tablespoons unsalted butter

Directions:

For the Secret Sauce:

In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined. Set aside.

For the Patty Melts:

Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty. Season the patties with salt and pepper.
Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked to your desired level of doneness. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
Wipe the skillet clean and return it to the heat. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in the skillet.
Place 2 slices of rye bread in the skillet and top each slice with a slice of Swiss cheese.
Divide the cooked patties among the bread slices, and top each patty with a few slices of onion.
Spread a generous amount of the secret sauce on the remaining 2 slices of rye bread and place them sauce-side down on top of the onion slices.
Spread the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter on the outer sides of the bread slices.
Cook the patty melts for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Remove the patty melts from the skillet and let them cool for a minute before serving.
