Ingredients You’ll Need:

For the Chocolate Cake Layers:

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Cheesecake Filling:

  • 16 oz (2 cups) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

For the Salted Caramel Sauce:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp sea salt (adjust to taste)

For the Chocolate Ganache:

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Additional Garnish (optional):

  • Additional salted caramel sauce
  • Chocolate shavings or curls

Preparation Steps:

1. Prepare the Chocolate Cake Layers:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until well combined.
  • Gradually stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin; don’t worry; this is normal.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

2. Prepare the Cheesecake Filling:

  • In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
  • Add the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat until well combined and creamy.

3. Make the Salted Caramel Sauce:

  • In a heavy saucepan, heat the granulated sugar over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until it melts and turns amber in color.
  • Add the butter and stir until it’s completely melted and incorporated into the caramel.
  • Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring continuously. Be cautious, as it may bubble up.
  • Remove from heat, stir in the sea salt, and let it cool.

4. Assemble the Cake:

  • Place one of the cooled chocolate cake layers on a serving platter.
  • Spread a layer of cheesecake filling evenly over the cake layer.
  • Carefully place the second chocolate cake layer on top of the cheesecake layer.
  • Pour the salted caramel sauce over the top, allowing it to drizzle down the sides of the cake.

5. Prepare the Chocolate Ganache:

  • In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it’s hot but not boiling.
  • Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

6. Finish and Decorate:

  • Pour the chocolate ganache over the top of the cake, letting it cascade down the sides.
  • Drizzle additional salted caramel sauce over the ganache.
  • If desired, garnish with chocolate shavings or curls.

7. Chill and Serve:

  • Refrigerate the cake for a few hours or until the cheesecake layer is set.
  • Slice and serve this heavenly creation to your delighted guests or enjoy it as a special treat all to yourself. Each bite is a harmonious blend of sweet, salty, creamy, and chocolaty goodness. Enjoy!
